Spackle

Spackling paste   is a putty used to fill holes, small cracks, and other minor surface blemishes in  wood,  drywall, and  plaster. Traditionally, spackling is composed mainly of gypsum plaster from hydrated calcium sulfate, and glue.

If you're not familiar with Spackle, it's actually trademarked by Muralo Company, of Bayonne, New Jersey. Muralo's particular product is a dry powder that works when mixed with water to create a putty or paste. 

It was introduced to the market in the 20's and has since become a generalized   trademark used in the U.S. for a number of household hole-filling products. 

In the US this product is sometimes referred to as spackling compound.
